Waiting

It has been a year since he first decided to make it a point to stand across the road from the Bar Council's office at the same time everyday.

Nobody knows why he does it. Nobody cares. Even his wife has stopped talking to him.

Thinking about his dear, sweet wife always brings tears to him eyes. He loves her, she loved him and they were happy.

Nobody knows it but him. Nobody even bothered to ask why he's there but he understands and he has never expected anything more than to be left alone.

For the past year, he would see the familiar faces of those who work in the surrounding area. Going in and out of their respective offices, crossing the busy Leboh Pasar Besar, chit-chatting and having lunch at the quaint Seng Nam kopitiam.

But despite all that, he has yet to cross path with the one face that has been and always will be etched in his mind. The one person he has spent all this time waiting for.

He doesn't know yet what he'll do if and when he meets him, What do you say, really, to the person who takes your happiness away from you in the worst possible way? What do you do?

Maybe he'll just walk off the curb, straight in front of the same oncoming bus that the same person may be driving again. He'll make himself visible one last time and maybe this time, the driver will see him.

Until then, he'll be there waiting at the same time, same place, every day, while re-reading one particular headline from last year in his mind, "Man Died in a Hit and Run".

hehe thanks babe. It is based on a true event. I am getting the hang of this flash fiction thingy since I am bad at elaborating and am more of the 'straight to the point' kinda writing.
