RECYCLE BIN, NOT RUBBISH BIN
Yesterday was hell. I slept late the night before trying to finish some work, a submission to be precise which the boss wanted to see the next day. I even sacrificed going to a play that i wanted to see just so i could do my work.
anyway, so yesterday morning, woke up early despite not having enough sleep as i have to go to court for 3 matters. At about noon, i went back to the office, and as expected my boss started asking about the submission. I told him I need a little more time as it is not quite finish and i still need to . He said okay and i started to work on it. Even skipped lunch just so I could finish it before having a meeting with a client at 3. I was just about to start on the conclusion when the clients came so I hit the save button and went to see the client.
By now, i was starving and was so tired and sleepy and i could feel a headache coming so i thought that after the meeting and as soon as i finish the conclusion, i would go and have something to eat. finally... I was so wrong!
After the meeting I went back to my room, excited to finish the submission so I could go eat. Before I started on the conclusion, out of habit, i hit the save button again just to be sure i would lose anything. Again, I was wrong. when I hit the save button, instead of saving my work, it went into error. A dialogue box came out and said "WORD HAS LOST DATA DUE TO BAD CONNECTION" or something like that and deleted the whole freaking document, the whole submission that i was working on since last week. Tried to retrieve it through document recovery but it was useless. Like I said, it deleted the whole document, not only the unsaved parts of it. Which meant that I had lost the whole thing. There was nothing I could do. Naturally, I freaked out and wanted to cry my eyes out but I was so tired and shocked that I just sat there staring at the computer screen and clicking the mouse aimlessly hoping for a miracle.
After a while, still feeling dazed, I started to type back what I could remember from the submission. Most of them being what i just typed earlier today. Luckily, i had written some of the points down. But it was just not the same. At that point, my only goal was about to finish the submission and not about doing it well anymore. I dunno what I was going to tell my boss. Suddenly, I remembered that i had deleted the earlier draft of the submission last week. I prayed really hard that it would still be in the recycle bin and that I could restore it so it won't be so bad. Then I only have to redo the parts that i did at home and the parts that i did earlier that day.
Alhamdulillah, when I opened the recycle bin, there it was, my precious, precious draft submission. i was soo happy, i could cry. but i didn't. in the end, I did manage to finish it though not so well. What a day! So peeps, remember to save your work in SEVERAL different places and RECYCLE.
